Growing up in Kenya we never really consumed hot sauce or had much pepper in our meals but in the roads and streets you would find street vendors selling roasted maize with chili and lemon or you would find mango fruit sellers who would always have chili on the side as a condiment. Well that excitement with pepper went into my teenage years & I recall always telling my mom to come home with Peptang’s Hot & Sweet Sauce. My fascination with chili took a backseat in the years after that & I began exploring different entrepreneurial endeavors.

While in that journey I started exploring the idea of farming chillis & never really took a chance until I find out I was going to be a dad 😆. So in 2020, I decided that 2021 was the year I finally get to be a chilli farmer. The plan was to only do this & sell the chilli for export but at the back of that I also decided to explore value addition

Our goal is to elevate every meal and build a strong brand the African Way

Joseph M Owino – Co-Founder Kwe & Cole Foods

Over the last 3 years we have created sauces and shared them with friends & family for feedback. In 2023, Colette was born and we decided to change the company name & also “go pro”. Our next steps were to follow all laws including getting certified by KEBS, getting trained at KIRDI & also hiring consultants to help with the labels & packaging.

Now in 2024, our products are starting to enter the market & we are eager to create a lasting company that impacts community, our lives & the lives of all those who buy, support or recommend our brands.

We believe in being bold, honest & deliver on value.

Farming in Awasi, Kisumu
Farming Chilli in Awasi
Chilli farm in Awasi

What started as an idea to farm chilli quickly pivots to becoming a sauce company. We realized very early on that food processing was  a more time worthy endeavour as compared to farming which was 400km away in Kisumu & we were in Nairobi during the "Lockdown". So we failed at Chili farming 😁 and pivoted to thinking about creating sauces.
